For most people, the garage is used for storage purposes and is the least decorated part of your home (and usually a bit messy). You can transform it from being a cluttered mess you’d rather avoid, to a really cool and organized place by decorating it creatively.
Paint the walls if needed. Since the garage is a place where you do a lot of dirt-generating tasks, like repairing your car or bike, choose dark colors that will hide marks and spots. You can also use chalkboard paint for right on-the-wall to-do lists. If you love cars (and have artistic talents), you can paint a whole race track on the walls.
One way of decorating and at the same time utilizing the garage wall is by mounting pegboards then attaching shelves and use them as workbench or tool organizers. You can display your gardening and car tools and this will make it easier for you to find them instead of having to check the drawers one by one. If you like collecting miniature cars or similar “garage-related” items, you can also display them on these shelves.
Many people also store sporting gear in the garage. Mount surfboards, skiing equipment, rollerblades, skateboards, and bicycle racks on the walls. By displaying them, they will definitely look organized instead of being all over the place, whether or not they are still being used.
If you have musical instruments that are no longer functioning but you cannot let go of, turn them to decorative pieces instead. An old guitar, violin, flute, harmonica, drumsticks, etc. will look great on the walls.
If there are cracks in the walls, cover them up by hanging something over them like wall clocks, paintings, picture frames, or posters. Make modern wall decor out of unused things in the garage and display them. Old newspapers and car magazines can be made into a fun collage.
You can also make the decorating into a family activity by putting up an art board where the kids can put their drawings, letters, and even draw on the walls if you paint it with chalk paint. Hang up a dartboard and continue your family dart tournaments all winter long.
Having an organized garage does not only make it a better working space, but this way, you also end up having a room full or unique and creative artwork and wall decor.
