Plumbing Tips from Atlanta Plumbers

We all have plumbing concerns from time to time. How many of us when these plumbing problems occur  wish we could take care of the problems ourselves before calling a plumber? Well I’ve been a plumber my whole career and as many Atlanta plumbers like myself will tell you, plumbing isn’t as hard as it looks. Here are some tips that might help you out when plumbing problems occur:

Tip #1: When the need arises to repair a faucet, the first thing to do that will help is line your sink with a towel. This will help in two ways—it will help prevent any small parts from going down the drain and it will also prevent scratching on the basin of your sink from the tools you use.

Tip #2: When cooking in your kitchen be sure to never pour hot grease or coffee grounds down your sink. These two ingredients will clog up your sink quickly.

Tip #3: If your bathroom sink or shower drain becomes clogged; check first to see if the stopper is clogged with hair or soap. This will save you time, energy, money and may solve the clogging problem in short time because hair or soap can easily be removed.

Tip #4: Ensure that every member of your family knows the location of every water shut-off in your home, especially the main water shut-off valve. This will be especially helpful should there be a water emergency in your home. So, take the time to seek out these water shut-offs because it will save you hours of clean-up, costs in clean-up and damage to your home and ease your mind.

Tip #5: Should you have problems with your shower head—weak pressure or water pressure that is inconsistent, then you may have a build up of mineral deposits. This can be minimized or solved by cleaning the shower head’s holes with a pin. Or, you can unscrew the face plate—the plate that has the outlet’s holes and soaking it overnight in a vinegar solution and then scrubbing it gently until it is clean and free of mineral deposits and then placing it back on to the shower head.

Tip #6: If or when you need to use a chemical drain cleaner to unclog your sink, never follow up and use a plunger if the drain cleaner doesn’t work. When you plunge and use an aerosol drain opener after using the drain cleaner, caustic material or harmful spraying could come back on you and cause severe damage or injuries to your skin and body. So, always use caution and never mix material together.

Tip #7: When working with plumbing problems that have many parts, make a notation as you work on the order of the parts as you take them apart. This will save a great deal of time and confusion when putting the parts back on. There is nothing as frustrating and time-consuming as trying to put parts back on and not knowing the order in which to place them.
