The majority of American homeowners don’t have a bath and a separate shower stall in their bathrooms. Usually the bath doubles as a shower with the shower head coming from the wall above the bath and a long shower curtain is used to prevent water from being splashed onto the floor.
When considering a bathroom renovation, the question comes up about whether to install a separate shower stall so you can have the luxury of both a bath and separate shower in the bathroom. First off, you need to ascertain whether you have enough room in the bathroom for both.
Taking a visual scan of the room may indicate that you haven’t got the space but this may not be the case as spacial dimensions can be tricky to the eye. You are better to work this out with pen and paper and plot out the bathroom to scale on some paper.
Then with these dimensions plot in the size of the various bathroom fittings to scale so you can see what can fit. You may want to go and look at some bathroom supply stores to get an idea of the different sizes of shower stalls, baths, toilets and basins.
You can get shower stalls that have everything molded into them – the walls, the floor and the soap holder as well as the door. These come in different shapes and sizes so you can find one to fit your bathroom. Or you may want to tile the floor and walls and put in some glass sides or doors. This also gives you a lot of freedom in regard to size as you can make it as large or small as space permits.
Once you have the shower stall size worked out, then it’s time to check out the different sizes of baths, toilets, and basins on offer. You’d be surprised just how much you can fit into a small sized bathroom with the variety on offer these days.
If you still don’t have the space for a separate shower and bath or feel too overwhelmed to tackle such a large project, you can always update what you’ve got and create a new look for your bathroom. Choosing a new curtain from the many unique shower curtains on offer, along with some matching accessories can give your bathroom a new look without the cost of a remodel.
