Wooden blinds are known for being difficult to clean. One of the reasons that their cousins, faux wooden blinds, are so popular is due to the fact that they can be cleaned with regular cleaning the products. The sealant used to finish this product makes it water resistant. Regular wooden blinds unfortunately lack this property and so we therefore have to get more creative. The methods I go over will are valid for wooden venetian blinds and wooden vertical blinds.
For a quick clean, just grab a feather duster and run it along the blinds. This is great for a visual touch up if ou have guests over but it should not be done too often as it does push a lot of the dust around. When that occurs you end up with a lot of dust in the air which you then breathe in. This clearly isn’t very good for you.
The next method I recommend is using a vacuum cleaner. Firstly make sure the bag is empty (if it is a bag cleaner) as you will need a lot of suction for this method. Use the small brush on the end of the vacuum and run it along each slat one at a time. Take your time to ensure that you get the dust off each and every slat.
Once a month, like all wooden products, you should give your wooden window blinds a polish. You may need to unhook your blinds to do this, that depends on how sturdy your blinds are. I recommend just using a spray on polish and an old rag (an old sock or torn t-shirt). Polish each slat, one at a time. To prevent boredom, do this in front of the TV or over a couple weekends depending on how many wooden blinds you have in your house.
