Garage Heaters: How To Enjoy Your Garage During The Winter Months

More and more people are using their garage as more than just a place to park their cars. People use their garage for a wide range of things such as a workshop, weight lifting gym, and entertainment room. During the warmer months of the year, working and doing things in your job is great. Your garage manages to stay cool while it’s hot outside and protects you from the sun while you’re getting some work done. However, during the winter months, it can be brutal working in your garage. Most garages don’t have sufficient insulation, so it’s really hard to keep the garage warm. If you plan on enjoying your garage during the winter months, you definitely want to look into getting a garage heater to beat the cold.

Garage heaters are the best, and most affordable, ways of keeping warm while your working int he garage. Plus, they’re really easy to use. They use a simple thermostat control plus temperature cut-outs, so it’s really easy to control the temperature. Garage heaters work by constantly dissipating clean heat to your entire garage, and not just one specific spot.

There are a couple of different heaters you can choose from:

Electric Garage Heaters: These are heavy duty steel electric heaters. You don’t have to worry about maintaining it as much as a propane heater, because they come with hard wiring components. The majority of garage electric heaters come with built-in thermostats for precise temperature control, automatic shut-offs to prevent equipment over-heating, and metal protections for additional rigidity. These garage heaters are capable of heating up to 500 square feet of your garage. This is more than enough power for most garages.

Propane Garage Heaters: Many people opt for propane heaters because they are more affordable to operate than an electric garage heater. It’s a 99% efficient heating system, is clean and odorless, and is thermostatically controlled like any other heater. Plus, it can heat up to 850 square feet of your garage. Depending on the size of the propane garage heater, they have various usage measurement capacities ranging from 8,000 BTU to 22,000 BTU. Plus, they come with an economical insulation to increase its heating efficiency.

Natural Gas Garage Heaters: This is a great option if your home is already using natural gas for its energy. While the unit might cost a little more up-front than propane or electric garage heaters, it costs much less to operate them on a month-to-month basis. These units do need to be located near an exterior wall to vent the exhaust outside.
